What is a human-centred electricity system?

VCTF Seminar Series
Mark Paterson
Mark Paterson is Chief Strategy Officer of Strategen Global and Managing Director of the Strategen Australia/Pacific practice. As a recognised thought-leader in whole-system grid transformation, Mark has played key roles supporting Australia’s transition to become one of the world’s most deeply decentralized electricity systems.

Australia’s 20th century electricity system has operated well as highly-centralised and one-directional grid that has supplied consumers who were largely passive  However, the combined forces of decarbonisation, decentralisation, democratisation and digitisation are leading to a very different grid of the 21st century.  While there is much talk about customers ‘being at the centre’, this presentation will explore the question of ‘what is a human-centred electricity system’.

This webinar is the fifth in a series of eight webinars on consumer-centric energy, being held between October 2020 and February 2021, co-hosted by the Energy Transition Hub and the Climate and Energy College, sponsored by the Victorian Clean Technology Fund.
